9 September
900. Watched for ~15 min here and walked around, but
saw no sign of stores or birds.
915. I take it all back! ①♀ wa-blk/m #834 and ?♂? DB-wa/DG #940,
both in the smallish Valley Oak with the roost holes. There are
birds here.
932. w6♂ in the Big Valley Oak poking around; doesn't look like
he belongs here. 933. Chased out by 2 birds.
938. A bird flew in for a second with Yel (solid) on LL leg-
but no one looks like this. 9834 is here again.
940. 9834 just picked an acorn, so the season is getting close.
1985
12 February
1145. Counted stores: 692. (!) This group now has a
reasonable set of holes scattered about. Proposing new areas
include a dead tree on the Al side of the ravine and (especially)
the old nest tree, where they have ~250 holes stored in a
couple of burned limbs.
23 April
**Group Update**
8835. This bird was removed in Nov'83 and
returned (along with 2 others) on 12 March 1984
but was never seen again → Dis. (Not seen after)
12 March 1984.
1645. Found the nest here - low in the smallish Valley
Oak near the fence. The babies have just hatched
(day 2 at most); there are 4 of them & no residual eggs.
3 May
I did the watch here today and as this is the
companion group to Keep Out for the brood size/feeding rate
