1984 1985 Walter D. Koenig 2 Melanerpes formicivorus Road I HNTUR 14 April 700. Missy is watching the main roost tree and I'm watching some other holes to see if they're interested yet. 730. ①♀wn-DB/m #383. 750. ♂ 08-Or/wn-Or #486. 815. ♂ Or/or #579. Certainly no sign of them going to The Sycamore by the creek. Several trips were made up to the Black Oak, but I don't think anyone went to the holes there either. 16 April A big ambush in the "low" hole in the Road Sycamore bagged 5 birds - 8486, 9804, and 3 unbanded 1st yr birds; clearly from a missed fall 1984 nest, who are now #994-996. All were released after processing except for 9804, who I held and eventually glued a transmitter (2;12;-0.5) to and released. [Transmitter fell off immediately] So: everybody, apparently, but the 2 breeding ♀♀ roosted in this hole. After dark I went out to see if I could find where 9804 roosted to see if we could find the mystery hole here, and she apparently was in the Sycamore by the creek (presumably a hole used a couple years ago). So maybe that's it, but we do need to keep an eye out here. 22 April **Group update** 27 Feb. 8580. Last seen 8 Sept. by me; gone by [illegible], →DA 1 Dec 1984 ± 2 months. 8672. Last seen 27 July (Rou?), gone by 8 Sept → DA 17 Aug ± 2 weeks 24 April 1200. Bird in brush hole. Nest check: 7 eggs. Missed this one—
