Melanerpes formicivorus
Wolfpack
4 October Katy reports a new group in between Road1 and Pipeline
consisting of [illegible] ≥3 birds, inc. 2 ub♀♀, 1 ub♂, + maybe a
third ♀. They are apparently storing in the large Valley Oak
across the road and spend a lot of time in the Sycamore
(see map on back).
19 October Came at dusk to watch roosting; there appear to be 4
birds here.
15 October ≥1 bird roosted high in the Sycamore; 2 seem to have
zipped off up the hill toward Warp 5.
26 October We hit the jackpot this morning, catching 6 unbanded birds
here, 5 in the large dying sycamore by the road (1♂ + 4♀♀)
and 1 in the tall sycamore by the former site of The 1980 RI
nest (a♂). Two may have been 1st-yr birds, but their
ages were not obvious. They are now #1174-1179.
I think These birds may be "from" Warp 5, but I'm
not sure. At least now we can find out!
