1985 Walter Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Corral Viejo HINHR (13 June) Nonetheless, the ♂ presumably "knows" there were no eggs as of when I removed him. (we checked the nest hole on 5 June and there was nothing there), and thus presumably will know he is at least at a big disadvantage in terms of fathering any of the eggs. Also, on the definite plus side, he will been in "breeding" condition when I caught him, and should still be wired for reproduction when I let him go this weekend. 16 June 840. Flushed a bird from the CV#1 hole and checked it: still 6 eggs. I then let The ♂ (8967) go, and we are now going to monitor the nest nonstop for at least the next 2 days. 1130. After Mark relieved me at CV#1 I checked CV#2's nest: they have 5 healthy looking babies (no eggs in hole) about 6-7 do. 1620. A bird (Adult) in the earlier nest hole at OKCorral. When she flushed I heard nothing, so presumably they have eggs if it is a 2nd nest. They certainly have a lot of acorns! 1700. Caught an ub♀ - now #1105 - o in a net set in front of the hole at CV#2; I injected her for DLW and let her go at 1817. 17 June 21 June 1830. I had Mark check the hole at OKCorral: 4 eggs. 800. Banded the 4 (still pretty young) babies at Outback. as #1112-1115. This group still has stores. Note, also, that it is apparently a 2nd nest for this group, as they already have some fledglings (side Mark).
