1984 1985 Welter D. Koenig Melanerpes fornicivorus Blomtwo / Blomthree HNHR 20 September 1445. No sign of life at Blomtwo. 1500. Not much sign of activity at Blomthree either, but hearing noises over by one of the vernal pools across the road path I walked over and flushed 4 birds and found a 4th (a 8") trenchantly sitting in a hole looking out. It's probably a nest, but will be hard to get to. In any case, I'm unsure of what group it belongs to; it could be Blomthrees, CV Grande, or conceivably even Gazebo's. The flushed birds tended to fly off toward CV Grande, however, so as a first guess I choose them. 1615. None in the hole this time; also no sounds coming from the hole. 1985 26 February 1830. Came to Blomtwo at dusk; saw no sign of any birds in or out of holes. I also could see no stored acorns, despite Philip having claimed to have seen some here. In short, I don't think there's a group here, at least now, even if there was one earlier in the winter. 30 March At dusk tonight I flushed several (3-4?) birds from holes in the roost/granary tree, so there presumably is a group here.
