1984 1985 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Haystack-Blonquist HNHR 18 October 755. Watching with Kim for vigilance. ①♀711 here, ⑦604 here also. ③571 seen; all 3 here storing acorns; the granary is filling up quickly. 830. Left. Birds were storing lots, but not staying for more than a few seconds in the granary. 1985 25 January 1900. Counted stores: 284! The tree is packed! 21 April **Group Update** ♀711. Last seen 28 Jan (Philip); gone by 2 April → D.A. 2 March ± 1 month 23 April 1200. Bird in high hole in nest tree over on Blonquists'. A nest for sure. 24 April 1900. Checked hole: 4 eggs. 2 May 1540. 6 eggs'. Measured. Should hatch ~7 May. 7 May 920. 5 babies, very young; no eggs. Hence, all probably hatched. 31 May 1420. Banded the 4 babies (it's possible, though unlikely, that a 5th is hiding in this difficult, labyrinthal hole) as #1083-1086.
