1985 Weller D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Change HNHR 27 April 1800. There was a bird in the main tree, but none in any holes. I opened the fall hole, and it's in good shape (but empty); it seems likely they'll use it, but if it's not there soon it will be time to look seriously elsewhere. 29 April 1500. Still nothing in the hole in the main tree. 2 May 1410. Bird in hole in sycamore - the probable nest. Unfortunately, it will require a rope. 12 May 1900. Opened the hole in the sycamore, plus another hole just above it, plus the hole in the granary, but all were empty. It's possible they had a nest in the (1st) hole and lost it, but in any case, we're now back to ground zero. 27 May 1800. Bird in hole in Blue Oak granary: 5 Eggs! 30 May 1045. Still 5 eggs. 4 June Mark opened the hole and noted 4 very young babies; there might have been an egg there too 20 June 1530. 4 babies, but the last was so small compared to the others that I took him rather than band him. The other 3 were banded as #1109-1111. There are quite a few acorns in the granary here. 24 September 1400. Put up a blind here. They have new acorns stored, plus at least some left over from last year. 7 September Stanback reports "some, not a lot of acorns" remaining here (possibly this was nearer the end of August)
