9/13/25 September 13, 1925 - clear day no rain. Today I caught eleven Sigmodons in the tall grass and corn patch on the small island. The stomach content of these specimens was green plant fibers and corn pulp. Six of the specimens were too badly eaten by the ants to save. In a trap set - by the roots of a large tree near the lake I caught another white-toed blue rat but unfortunately some prowling cat ate it half up. The specimen was quite large. H.F. 37. T.193. Hind foot - heel, purplish flesh; toes and pads pale purplish flesh. Under side of toes with segmented effect as in Sigmodon. Color - blueish slaty. Dorsally darker with grayish hairs throughout. Ventrally lighter. More gray hairs on sides and flanks than any other place. One foot heavily tipped with white and the other slightly tipped with white. Tail dark with many short hairs. September 14, 1925 - Warm day; heavy rain during the night. The day was spent with Mr. Taylor up on the mountain south of camp. I saw a deer (doe) (Odocoileus) which was running parallel along a horizontal path about half way up one of the slopes.
