Pine Peaks, Vol. Conchagua, Dept, La Union
Feb., 26, 1986 - March - 7, 1986
Urocyon
- Lato Cancel.
There were signs of this species being quite numerous on Vol. Conchagusa for there were many fecal droppings on lava rocks and on a stone wall which wound over the mountain top. Many places I saw little freshly dug holes under rocks and in banks which I believe were done by this animal. Late on the afternoon of March 5, I was setting traps for Peromyscus and Sigmodon in the lava rock and brushy pasture land on the south mountain slope when following down a rocky ridge I saw a fox standing on a large lava rock perhaps one hundred and fifty yards below me. I watched it for a few minutes while it was reaching for fruit in a palm tree, then I got behind the rock ridge where I crept down closer and to within range where I shot it with a 410 shotgun. This specimen is numbered 11256 in my serial.
