8/21/25 the mice with a shot pistol. Sometimes I found the mice in old bird nests. These mice are probably Oryzomys. In the canal like swamps leading away from the lake I saw raccoon (Procyon) tracks. August 22, 1925 - A very pleasant day. Last night it rained so hard that most of my mouse traps were tripped. I shot a variegated Squirrel which was near some colol-palms. August 23, 1925 - Warm in the morning. Mouse traps that were set near the water edge of a swamp which leads a winding course back through the open forest had three mice (Oryzomys). The traps were set under mimosa brush some of which was dead and formed a trashy brush up through which the green brush was growing. Under the mimosa on the other side of the forest were conditions were similar except that the swamp wasn't there, I caught two more Oryzomys and a wolly mouse. The ante had eaten the two Oryzomys and had started on the wolly mouse. These traps were baited with greens of corn. In the open swamp forest where the trees averaged about 60-70 ft. high I shot an Anteater (Tamandura tetradactyla - ). This specimen was located on a horizontal limb about 53 ft. from the ground. She was lying perfectly motionless on
