Sciurus
Variegated Squirrel; Gray-tailed Squirrel - Hardio.
The Variegated Squirrel was another mammal common to this locality. When hunting where there were trees or brush one might expect to see one at any time running up the trunk of a tree or through the branches. In the early morning or late evening while it was cool I found this animal to be the most active, and observed that while running my trap line I saw several near where I had seen them the day before. No. 11088 crossed my path for three consecutive mornings at the same place. On the morning of February 15 I saw a group of eight in one tree chasing each other up and down the branches and at times they were quite vociferous. They were probably feeding.
