Lake Olomega Departamento la Union
Altitude 260 ft. (by barometer)
July 28, 1925 - Clear - Warm.
4:00 P.M. I entered the jungles for
the first time with a few mouse
traps and six No. 0. Oneida 'jumps'.
The vegetation about Lake Olomega
is not so thick but what one
can go through it without cutting
one's way. It was very warm in
jungles today chiefly due to the
absence a breeze there. I set
five No. 0. Oneidas and about the
same number of mouse traps, at
small holes under lava rocks
and under tree stumps. Some
of the tracks of larger mammals
were seen but the identity was
not certain. Two or three trails
that ran horizontally with the hills
were observed.
July 29, 1925 - Clear - Warm.
The hills bordering Lake Olomega
are steep with many lava
rock boulder and thorn patches,
thus traveling is very difficult.
Along the edge of the lake is a
path which is used [illegible]
chiefly by domestic hogs and
cattle. The only result of
yesterdays set was an opossums
foot. (Didelphis) This No. 0. trap was
set in a hole on a hill side. Presumably
something had eaten the catch.
Some natives [illegible] shot a rabbit.
