Hairy-tailed Rat -
Only one specimen of this
species was taken at Puerto del Triunfo.
It was caught in a large snap trap
set on a horizontal limb in second
growth under large trees in a dense
piece of jungle near camp. The
limb on which the trap was set was
approximately two inches in diameter
with its basal end connecting with
adjoining brush by a long pole and
with the tips of its branches touching
brush on the other side, although
this trap and many others set in
similar places were kept baited
with oatmeal and bananas for a
week no more Hairy-tailed Rats were
taken. Frequently some of the traps
would have a Blue-tailed Rat. The
Hairy-tailed Rat was caught with
oatmeal. No. of specimen 11609,
