Puerto del Triunfo, Dept, Usulutan Dec, 28, 1925 - Jan, 23, 1926 spiny-pocket mouse- Spiny-pocket mice at Puerto del Triunfo fell into my traps in their usual numbers. Nos. 10937 and 10963 were among the dry leaves on the ground under colol palms in the dense heavy jungle at night. I first was aware of their presence by hearing the leaves rustle at one side of the Carreta trail. In the lamp light I could see them making long leaps to escape. I killed both specimens with my shot pistol. Nos. 10932, 10978, 11000, and 11034 were trapped in a brushy and grassy banana grove at the north east corner of the village. I found that these specimens were taken more frequently in or near dried weeds however most of my traps in these places were set under or at the base of banana trees. (For more detailed description of the banana grove see Oryzomy's note). No. 10973 was caught among dry leaves on the ground under second growth jungle. Near this spot much ground had been cleared away for pasture land but part of it had been allowed to grow up again into second growth jungle which was tangled with vines in most places. No. 11033 was taken at at the edge of a tall hiary grass pasture under cololaw brush. All stomach examined, but one, contained seed pulp. No. 11000 taken in the banana grove had plant and seed pulps in its stomach. Some specimens had little brown seeds in their pouches.
