Puerto del Triunfo, Dept., Usulutan Dec, 28, 1925 - Jan, 25, 1926 Odocoiles deer- Venado Deer were common in the second growth jungle and clearings at Puerto Del Triunfo. On several nights I flashed their eyes in these places but they were usually out of range of my sixteen gauge shotgun. The young female collected, No. 10925, was shot where a strip of second growth had been cleared away for pasture land. Obviously the deer came to these clearings to feed on the tender sprouts and grass which were springing up. The specimen collected was alone but at other times I saw as many as three feeding close together in the clearings. The natives are fond of venison and gathered around like so many vultures when they heard of the kill. The better class of people consider it one of their best sports to hunt at night for deer with carbide lamps. Deer eyes reflect greenish before the carbide light.
