Puerto del Triunfo, Dept, Usulutan, Salvador. December 28, 1925 - January 25, 1926 Puerto del Triunfo, an old deserted sea port, is located on the north shore of a network of tidal channels along the coast line of the department of Usulutan. For several years the port has been deserted. There are three chief reasons why Puerto del Triunfo has changed from a sea port into a fishing village. First, because a number steamers sank in the main channel, the masts of which are still sticking out of the water; second, because it would be necessary to contract for expensive dredging to open the channel for larger steamers; third, because the railroad company chose to run their line to La Union in preference to Puerto del Triunfo. Thus one now sees what were once well kept buildings constructed of northern lumber shattering into ruin and mouldering away under the inroads of termites. Many of the buildings are deserted, while in some rooms are occupied by natives but most of the inhabitants of the village live in their huts constructed of poles and zacate. The steel pier still stands but is rapidly rusting. There are perhaps two hundred people now living in
