8/12/25 13 August 12, 1925 - Cool all day no rain. Today we went up the mountain to the grass region. As I was climbing the steep hill side I saw a Doe (Odocoiles) running along one of the paths which run horizontally along the side of the steep side. For a while I thought it was coming straight to me but suddenly it saw me and dashed on over the hill with me following as rapidly as possible. Some time later as I was standing watching for a rock when an Armadillo came lumbering down toward me. Apparently it had not seen me for when I stepped over to pick it up as I would a turtle it dashed off through the rocks and grass out of sight before I could follow. The next time I shall shoot my armadillo then picks it up. The altitude where I saw these two mammals is about 2000 ft. August 13, 1925 - Warm in the morning but a nice breeze was blowing. Cloudy in the afternoon but no rain. Today we went upon the mountain again. Some mouse traps that I set by little holes under the rocks were not bothered, however one had some bird feather in it.
