Mt. Cacagualique, Dept, San Miguel, Salvador Nov., 21, 1925 - Dec., 23, 1925 Gray-tailed Squirrel, Variegated Squirrel - Hardia When we first arrived in the Mt. Cacagualique region there were two chocoote trees with rich pipe yellow fruit. In these trees I saw three squirrels the first day I was in the field, but since our equipment had not arrived I did not collect any. No. 10860 was collected in the edge of the oaks, and No. 10872 was shot in a dense brush patch, where I was trying to draw a wren up closer by squeaking like a bird. Instead of the wren here came this squirrel and I shot it with my shot pistol. It had a large grub in its back. I saw two more of these squirrels in the oak region (Joruan) but was unable to get a shot at them.
