Mt. Cacaguatique, Dept., San Miguel, Salvador Nov., 21, 1925 - Dec., 23, 1925 short-tailed mouse The short tailed mouse a relatively rare species to the locality was found with me in the Mt. Cacaguatique region where I took five specimens. The name applied is erroneous when these small mammals are compared with Microtus or Synaptomys but in comparison to other mammals of this region they may be termed [illegible] short-tailed mice. No. 10814 was taken in a tall rough bladed grass patch, (see Harvest mice notes of same region). Nos. 10841 and 10842 were caught in a corn path where there were many bean vines with ungathered ripe beans and thick dead grass. Later No. 10916 was taken in this same corn patch. Here I found this species in association with Sigmoidon, spiny-pocket mice & Yellow mice. No. 10862 was trapped in a weed and brush patch near a grass covered stream (see Sigmoidon, Yellow mice, and Water mice notes). Stomachs examined contained plant pulp, starchy seed pulp, white starchy substance and insects. Female No. 10841 was carrying two 17mm. embryos and female No. 10916 was carrying two 43 m.m. embryos.
