Mt. Cacaguate, Dept., San Miguel Salvador
Nov., 21, 1925 - Dec., 23, 1925
Spiny-pocket mouse
Spiny-pocket mice were not found as commonly in the Mt. Cacaguatique region by me so in other localities visited thus far. Nos. 10777, 10786 and 10807, were taken in a tall grass patch (see Harvest mouse notes). No. 10796 was trapped along the brushy bank of a stream, and Nos. 10822, 10833 and 10711 were taken in a corn patch where there were many bean vines with many dried beans in the pods, and much dead grass. Here I found them in association with Yellow mice, Sigmodon, and short-tailed mice.
The traps were set on the ground near the bean vines, near corn stalks, and in the dead grass. Stomach specimens contained white starchy substances, plant pulp and fibers, and seed pulp.
