Mt. Cacaguateque, Dept., San Miguel, Salvador
Nov., 21, 1925 - Dec., 23, 1925
Blue-tailed rat
These rats were taken in both the sub-tropical and Sonoran zones of the Mt. Cacaguateque region. No. 710709 was taken under the edge of a rock about two feet from one of the mountain streams which ran through a banana grove a few paces farther on. No. 10744 was taken at the base of a banana tree in the same banana grove. No. 10859, the Sonoran specimen was trapped among oak leaves not far from a strip of sub-tropical vegetation which followed one of the stream courses. No. 10880 was taken among some rocks partly covered with brush in this sub-tropical strip. No. 10899 the highest record for the region, 4000 ft., was trapped under rocks in the edge of the oaks.
Unfortunately I did very little tree trapping so I have no notes as to the ecological habits of this species in the Mt. Cacaguateque region. From the stomachs examined I find recorded in my serial mainly green plant pulp & fibers, yellow plant pulp, and seed puffs.
