Harvest mouse
Harvest mice were not found commonly in the Mt. Cacaguateque region, by me.
The eleven specimens which were taken were found in various associations.
No. 10706, an adult female was taken in a small snap trap baited with oatmeal under some green and dried banana leaves which were lying on the ground under some banana trees in a grove in a banana grove near one of the little canyon streams. Here the ground was heavily shaded. Nos. 10719-10754 were taken in the same grove with the same bait (oatmeal) and in similar sets. No. 10785 was caught in a small path of tall rough bladed grass, which covered about ΒΌ of an acre, at the base of a steep incline toward the summit of the mountain, [illegible] This little area was bordered on two sides with dense tangled brush, or another by a coffee nursery shed which was covered with banana leaves and a mountain stream, and on the by a shaded coffee region. No. 10794 was caught on the roof of the nursery shed. Nos. 10855, 10868, & 10869 were juveniles which were taken in our work room, a mud plastered walled room. These little fellows squeaked for nearly two days before I discovered that they were mice and not insects. Their mother had probably been killed [illegible] since they were apparently too
