yielding to the machetes since their shade is not fitted for coffee growing and they are being replaced by mother of coffee trees thus the Sub-tropical zone will eventually replace the Sonoran zone of the MT. Cacaguatique region. Along some of the slopes the brush is so dense and tangled that it is impossible to penetrate without a machete. After approximately two hours mule back ride from Ciudad Barrios we reached the pocket or notch where we made our collection. From this south slope we could look off to the south and slightly to the west to the lofty Volc. San Miguel and the small ridge extending from it to Volc. Usulutan. We are very much indebted to the Silva family of Ciudad Barrios and to Don Joe for giving us permission to hunt on their property in this region and for shelter and courteousies they extended to us at all times. Mammal collecting started November 21 when we received our last rain, and we left for Divisadero December 23.
