10/25/25 October 23-24, 1925, trip to Manga-nillo. October 25, 1925- We made our station at a hacienda house on the west bank of the Rio Grascora, river 13° 30' N. The port of Manzanillo is about one hour mile back ride south and west. Along this side of the river is a high rocky cliff and about 500 yds. down the river as quite an extensive patch of virgin forest, which is obviously sub-tropical. Across the river to the east the bottom lands of the river extend probably three miles to a strip or short chain of Honduranian mts. The Rio Grascoran river will average about 125 yds. wide and is full of alligators. At the base of the rocky cliff in the jungles perhaps half a mile south east of the house I found a mouse skull. Presumedly from an owl pellet, also I saw some Raccoon tracks in some soft soil. I am told they as well as deer are abundant here. October 26, 1925- One of my traps which were set at the base of the steep rocky cliff had a chiomys. The trap was set on close to the perpendicular wall. The two Blue-tailed rats were caught in similar sets. Van shot a Sigmodon in some carbon brush near a cotton field. Twenty traps set last night.
