December 21, 1926 No 12221 Was shot at night 1/2 mi west of Divisader along trail in Carbon forest. When first heard it was eating leaves and then started to root like a hog in leaves that were upon the ground after beetles and bugs when I shot this specimen it ran of through the forest as though nothing ever happened but I found it after a search through thick under brush dead lying on its back. No 12223 [ = 12,222 ] Was shot at night 1 mi west of Divisader along trail in Carbon forest. When first heard it seemed to be coming toward me but it changed it course and went back through brush. I went back to another trail a few feet away and here I shot it at very close range with shot pistol it ran of through forest but was found after some 10 or 15 minute search for it, it also was lying dead up on its back I also shot three more of these specimen but they could not be found in thick brush and vines this Carbon forest has thorns on it so one cannot
