2004 2005 Waltham County Melanerpes formicivorus LODO HNHR 11 May 3 birds flushed from high hole. Interested, at least. 12 May 830. Checked hole: empty but in good shape. Still some acorns here. 20 May 945. Opened the hole (high now) again figuring there should be something, and there was: a dead bird! It was F M / Red #3914! (M: 972-76180) Huh! No obvious cause of death; she was just down in there by herself. Since I had the ladder, I went over to the other tree and cleared out a starling nest from the old nest hole there (tagged #300). It had 4 kids almost ready to fledge. 3 June 1545. None in any holes. Acorns look pretty well depleted. 24 August No acorns left here. 2005 6 Apr 7 Lots of stores here. None in the holes, though. 13 Apr 7 Bird in new hole in the old (further) tree. 14 Apr 7 1230. Opened The new hole, now tagged #902. 4 inc eggs: ① 24.9 x 20.2 ② 25.0 x 19.8 ③ 26.0 x 19.9 ④ 25.2 x 19.4. EHD 18 Apr 7. 21 Apr 7 1545. 2 kids, ~4 do, + 1 unhatched egg. Band ~ 8 May. 25 Apr 7 1430. Bled the 2 kids (+1 unh-egg) for SI: ① Red LL Wt: 32.4 ② LA-Mv Wt: 35.6g
