Melanerpes farmacorum
Central Canyon
HNHR
7 April
1130. Starlings and stores here. Also birds,
but not in any holes.
15 April
1535. Bird seen entering a new hole, pretty high
in the main trunk. I'll have to check to see
if the 32' ladder will be enough.
17 April
1145. Opened The new hole (there are actually 2):
one (the lower one) is unfinished. The higher one
could be used, but is empty thus far. Be careful with
it - The bark is in pieces.
Also cleared out a starling nest in the old hole
next to the new ones I opened.
10 May
Still no sign of a nest. Starlings in that old
high hole, despite having cleaned it out earlier
(17 April).

11 May
Pretty sure there's a starling nest in hole #262.
2005
6 April
No sign of birds here, other than starlings. No
stored acorns either.

17 May
930. 3 birds here; flew to 2nd Canyon, where
some fighting is going on, when I flushed them.
