2004 2005 Wellford Koerner Melanerpes formicivorus Blampond HNHR 3 Sept. Having seen a bird in the hole here twice, I went up and checked it, but it's empty. 2005 13 April lots of stores here. ♀ in new hole below old hole in sycamore. 1700. Opened the hole, which is ~18" below the old one (#280). 4 fresh eggs! EHD ~ 23 Apr) (could still be laying). Eggs measured: ① 24.5 x 19.5 ② 24.6 x 19.6 ③ 25.7 x 19.6 ④ 24.6 x 19.2. 24 April 1000. Checked The hole, which is now tagged #909: taken over by Starlings! They're building their nest, which I cleared out. No eggs - either of the EUST or ACWD. Sheesh! Wonder if it failed before, or because of the starlings ?? 29 April 930. Bird in the low hole (not used previously). Checked it: it's empty but being worked on. 4 May Got rid of the starling (+ her nest + 4 eggs) that was in hole #909. 14 May 1400. Birds back in hole #909 w/ 4 fresh eggs ① 26.4 x 26.9 ② 26.6 x 19.9 ③ 26.6 x 26.9 ④ 26.1 x 20.8. 26 May 1045. 5 kids (!) and no eggs, ~1-2 do. Band 26/14. I guess they had 5 eggs!
