Melanerpes formicivorus
Middle School Hill (MSH)
HUNR
19Apr? 1700. Walked by that tree with the
nice hole in it somewhere up above
the Y area only to find a bird in the hole!
Not sure - this could, perhaps, be School
House(?), but it's a ways away, so I'm
calling it Middle School Hill (MSH).
I'll need a rope to open it. See back for
a tentative map.
21Apr? 1300. None in hole this time.
Tree is tagged #1503. GPS: 629911 / 4027430
Much to my surprise, there is a single (one)
Fresh egg in the hole! Measurements: 27.2 x 19.2.
Hole tagged #908. Something is indeed
up here, although I'm not sure what yet!
25Apr? 1800. Bird in hole. Checked it: 4 eggs
(incl the one from 4/21). LED 4/24; hatching
~7 May. Measurements: ② 27.1 x 19.8
③ 26.6 x 19.8 ④ 26.7 x 19.9. 1st egg (from 4/21): 27.2 x 19.2.
9 May 1430. 2 kits, 3-4 do, + nothing - just eggshells
Band ~ 26 May. This tree is tagged #1503,
by the way.
15 May 1010. Set to try and get the NOBA ♀ here.
①♂/ad-or → ②♂/ad-or
1200. Will have to try again later. Just the ♂ fed.
1215. Got her after all!
26 May 1000. Banded & bled the 2 kids. Stones?
Heck if I know. Not sure where.
