2005 2006 Wattled Poemg Melanerpes formicivorus Cavity HNHR 11 April 1400. New hole in usual tree: 9 fresh eggs, all normal. Hole tagged #6595. EHD ~14 Apr 7. 21 April 1245. Still 9 eggs. 24 April 900. Checked the nest: still the 9 eggs, but none of them have developed! Another completely infertile clutch! (Note: one of the eggs had broken somewhere & was intact but- frained; all other 8 were undeveloped). Took them. Measurements: ①25.0 × 19.3 ②24.3 × 19.2 ③22.8 × 17.6 ④24.1 × 19.2 ⑤24.1 × 19.3 ⑥23.7 × 19.7 ⑦23.7 × 19.2 ⑧24.1 × 19.4 ⑨24.5 × 19.1 (empty) 5 May 1500. Checked Hole (6595): 6 fresh eggs: (1 a runt) ①23.5 × 19.4 ②23.1 × 19.8 ③24.1 × 19.1 ④23.5 × 19.8 ⑤23.4 × 20.6 ⑥19.6 × 16.7. Hopefully these will be OK. EHD ~15 May. 18 May 745. 6 kids, ~1 do, +4 unhatched eggs (1 a runt). Looks like a clutch of 10 here! 22 May 1630. Still 6 kids although 1 on the way out. 4 June 1100. Banded & bled the 5 kids. 2006 11 May 1424. 6 eggs-3 day incubated. Hole #264. ①23.3 × 19.2, ②24.0 × 19.1 ③23.0 × 20.2 (this egg ③ has a small puncture) ④23.6 × 19.8 ⑤23.4 × 20.2 ⑥24.0 × 19.1 Acorns? Yes. 6 June 1215. Banded the 5 babies. Still starts.
