2005 WaltrD Koenig 2006 2007 Melanerpes formicivorus Calgin HNHR 3 May Neil solved several mysteries here. First, these birds do have a granary, it's the blue oak up Red H?1 (tree#146)! There are a fair number of stored acorns in it that I'd never noticed before. Second, these birds do fly over the chaparral and to the tree with the nest holes. Third, he ID'd several of the birds 17 May 830. Bird in new (lower) hole: 2 eggs. ① 29.8×17.7 ② 24.0×19.0. Laying. 22 May 1700. 6 eggs. Others: ③ 28.1×18.3 ④ 27.8×18.2 ⑤ 27.8×18.3 ⑥ 22.5×18.2. EHD ~ 6/1 3 June 1130. 2 kids, ~3-4 do, +3 unhatched eggs, at least 2 of which probably developed at least Band ~ 20 June 19 June 1500. Banded + bled the 2 kids. Stores? ⑤ [illegible]; [illegible] Yes - lots over on the way up to the Chongo trail. 1 Sept. 1445. Still a few stored acorns here. 8 E-WIND/M j4178 in granary. 2006 5 June 900. Banded + bled the 5 kids Hole now tagged #681. 2007 3 May 1115. Bird in higher hole (tag#100). 13 May 1200. Still 4 eggs. 5 June Banded + bled the single kid. Stores? Yes.
