2008 2009 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Plague HNHR 1 Apr 7 1300. Attempting to count stores here! 8575. There are a lot more holes here than there used to be. I suspect that there actually could easily be on the order of 10,000 stored acorns here. 22 Apr 7 1130. Bond in traditional hole (tag #247). Checked it: empty but in good shape. 2009 24 May 1300. Bond in old hole #247 in The 2° tree: 5 eggs (1 a runt), fresh. 4 June 1000. Checked the nest: now 1 hatchling + 5 eggs, (1 a runt). Guess they were still laying on 5/24 (LED 5/25). 7 June 1045. Still only 1 kid + 6 eggs (1 a runt). Must have been miscounting all that time. 3 of the eggs had not developed at all (not including the runt); I collected the 2 that had and took tissue from them. Both embryos (4749/50) were alive but nowhere close to hatching - they must have been laid very late in the game. They were ~15mm in length. 17 June 1015. Watching. ① δ M/DB-W(N) #4230. ② δ AOAP(Leg) #3982. ③ δ♂-W(M) #4449. ④ δ? MV-LP/M ? (Seen well) ⑤♀ M/MV #3983. ⑥ δ M/DB-W(N) #2056. 4207
