2005 (W)N D Koering 2006 Melanerpes formicivorus Branca HNNR 18 May 1100. Finally - bird flushed from (old) main granary. They have kids! 19 May 1500. It was not the old hole (#5802) (I also checked hole #1146 - could be fixed up). Instead, it's a new hole a bit further out & up - unfortunately far enough to require the ladder. 20 May 1000. Brought up the 40' ladder & opened the hole (now tagged #915): 3 kids (1 runty and on the way out), ~15 do or so. Banded them just so I wouldn't have to get up here again! 6 Sept. Lots of (old) stores here. 2006 6 March 930. Birds in 2 holes in granary. Stores: definitely 12 May Plenty of stores still. Bird flew out of last year's hole 13 May 830. 4 eggs in last year's hole (#915) ① 26.8 x 18.5 ② 25.7 x 18.9 (this egg not developing) ③ 27.1 x 17.9 ④ 26.4 x 18.1 . 5-6 days incub, hatch on 18 May? 24 May 1030. 3 babies (1 runtish), ~ 7-8 do. + 1 unhatched egg. Banded ~ 6 June. 4 June Banded & bled the 3 kids, Stores: Yes. 12 Sept. Still a few stores here.
