2004 2005 Walter D Koening Melanerpes formicivorus LA2 HNHR 27 May 1130. Hole empty! Burner! Lots of acorns still here. 10 August Still lots of stores. 2005 5 Feb. Ambushed the usual hole (in the outer Vally Oak) This morning, getting the NOBA ♀ (now 4032), 83034 + 83038, and a surprise - 93367, a daughter not seen since Aug. 2001! Bizarre. She has to be a helper (the 80's are her dads); presumably she's now outranked by the NBA ♀. 14 Apr 7 1615. Bird in one of the old holes back in the forest: The lowest hole on that limb that used to have at least 3 thit (now this is the only one left). Hole has 6 eggs (1 a runt): ① 24.8 × 19.2 ② 18.0 × 14.8 (Runt) ③ 26.2 × 18.6 ④ 25.3 × 18.9 ⑤ 25.3 × 17.9 ⑥ 24.0 × 18.9. Fresh. Hole now tagged #903. Perhaps both ♀♀ are laying? Incest? 19 Apr 7 915. Took the 6 eggs for the 3rd experimental removal of the year. Inc the 5 normal ones. 24 Apr 7 Eggs (2) hatched this morning. 10 May 1545. Bird in hole #903 again. 7 eggs, incubated (1 a runt again!) ① 25.8 × 18.7 ② 25.0 × 18.8 ③ 25.0 × 18.3 ④ 26.2 × 19.1 ⑤ 25.2 × 18.4 ⑥ 25.4 × 18.3 ⑦ 21.3 × 15.1 (the runt). EHD ~ 14 May. 18 May 1045. 5 kids, ~4 do, + 2 unhatched eggs (1 the runt)
