2005 2006 Walter D Poinig Melanerpes formicivorus Lambert HNHR 14 Apr 1530. Noone in it, but I went ahead and opened the new hole in the main granary here. It was empty, but in good shape. Stores? You bet. Old nest hole by the pond (hole 5815) was disintegrated, by the way. 3 May 1100. Bird in the new hole (now tagged #912): 3 fresh eggs. ① 26.2 x 18.7 ② 24.7 x 18.7 ③ 25.9 x 19.1, 11 May 1730. Still 3 eggs. 18 May 1000. 2 kids, ~5 do, + 1 unhatched but developed egg. Ambusher ready here. 1145. Got a 3! 24 May 1530. Here for a 2nd bird. 1600. Got a 3! Probably more, however. 27 May Trying for a 3rd bird here. 1200. So far, just the (banded) pair I've already caught. 1230. After 25-30 feet, it's still just the cpair 2 June 800. Banded & bled The 2 kids. Stores: Yes. 20 June 1430. Bird in (nest) hole: empty. 27 June I think these guys are getting at the low end of stores. 6 Sept. No stores left here. 2006 6 March Some stores here, but not a lot (unless they're storing somewhere now, which is not unlikely?) 12 May No stores left, best I can tell.
