2005 2006 2007 Walton D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Arnold Schwartz HNHR 14 April Over in The area where they used to nest (just down from the old dump area) there are at least a few stores and, more interestingly, a nice new-looking hole in a moderate to small valley oak. Noone in it at the moment, however. 27 May 1300. Wandered over on the Bradley's new road, going not far - just below the old dump area on the S side - and saw a kid-old! - looking out of a low hole in a small dead limb. I went back and got the ladder but as I put it up, he flew out. Bummer. I went ahead and opened the hole, finding one more kid (now 4109) inside. I can't actually be positive this is ARSW - It's a ways from the granary and it could be some other group over by the canyon here. But I think it is. I'll set up an ambush and see if I can nab anyone else. The hole is tagged #914. See map on back. 6 Sept. No stores in the traditional granary. 2006 6 March Lots of stores in the traditional tree! 12 May Still stores here (and a bird!) 24 June 600. Got a NOBA 8" (A24?) roosting by himself in last year's nest hole this morning. 2007 6 May Plenty of stores in the traditional granary!
