2005 2006 2007 Waltor Poetry Melanerpes formicivorus Arnold I [illegible] 14 Apr 1700. 2 birds in the old high hole. Stored acorns up in there also. 15 Apr 1500. Went up to The hole (tag #284); had to deepen it, which took hours, but there are 6 incubated eggs here: ① 27.6 x 19.6 ② 25.8 x 18.3 ③ 26.7 x 19.5 ④ 25.0 x 18.7 ⑤ 27.6 x 18.8 ⑥ 25.1 x 19.2. 26 Apr 1000. Checked the nest: 4 kids and no eggs. Kids ~ 4-5 do. Band ~ 11 May. 10 May 1500. Banded & bled the 4 kids (I pretty runtly, though). Stores: Yes (even though the main granary is gone). 6 Sept. No stores left here, best I can tell. 2006 9 May 1430. Went up to The traditional hole (tag 284): 8 eggs, at least some incubation: ① 24.7 x 19.0 ② 22.4 x 17.4 ③ 24.0 x 18.0 ④ 27.5 x 19.2 ⑤ 26.9 x 20.7 ⑥ 24.6 x 18.1 ⑦ 24.7 x 20.0 ⑧ 24.5 x 18.9. 17 May 1300. Checked nest: 5 hatchlings (~1 do) + 3 eggs (#3,5,7), developed but don't seem like they'll hatch. Band ~ 6 June. 5 June 1100. Banded & bled the 4 kids (I quite behind and as yet unfeathered). Stores? Yes! 2007 24 Apr 1200. Opened the new hole here, now tagged #214, 5 eggs, incubated ① 23.5 x 18.3 ② 26.1 x 20.7 [hole in it] ③ 24.1 x 18.5 ④ 27.5 x 19.8 ⑤ 25.3 x 17.3 [not developing].
