2006 2007 Wall & Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus MacFlat H N H R 23 May No stores left here. Not much sign of anything or anyone so far, really. 26 May 1500. Bird in last year's (difficult) hole earlier, so I checked it: 3 eggs. Didn't take any out, but I suspect they're still laying. 31 May 1600. Still 3 eggs, best I can tell. Hole now tagged #693. EHD ~4 June (just a guess) 7 June 1600. Checked the nest: 3 kids, I'd say no more than 2 days old. Band ~28 June. 21 June ♂ bird is ♂ un-DB/DB #3405. ♀ NOBA. 25 June 800. For the 3rd time, I finally nailed the ♀NOBA at the nest, only to have her squeeze out past the bobber somehow. Sheesh. Two babies left, by the way, one of which is very close to death. 26 June 1500. Banded & bled the 2 kids, even though one is still very retarded. 29 June 500. Success! Found the roost hole (in the sycamore between the creek & P3's old tree) and ambushed, getting 3405 + 2 NOBA ♀s! Whoopee! Hopefully that's it, at last. 2007 3 May 1030. Checked hole: empty. (hole#693) 23 May 930. New hole ~2' below #693! Tagged (now) #689. Four kids ready to go! Banded & bled.
