2005 WaltrD Poenig Melanerpes formicivorus MPHF HNHR 11Apr 1230. Bird in hole (climbable hole): 8 eggs, incubated, and all normal EHD: 15Apr 18Apr 1130. Checked the hole: 2 kids ~2do, perhaps +5 unhatched eggs (!) At least 2 of these didn't look developed, but I suspect now will hatch at this point Est N hatching: 3. Band ~6 May. 24Apr 1800. Took blood from the 2 kids for stable isotopes: ① Orange LL Wt: 42.1g. ② NB Wt: 27.4g Take again on 1,8 May. 1May 1400. Took blood sample #2 forgot to label! ① Or 78.2g ② 57.8g Bring tape and glue next week. 8May 1500. Banded & bled the 2 kids ① Or #4044 90.8g ② #4045 75.7g This was after trying to nab an adult, but having no one go in for 1½ hrs. 9May 1600. Finally caught an adult at the nest to go along with the kids: it was 4020, a fall kid, who is almost done molting to a ♀. Note: weather is rainy + cool today, in case that makes a difference! 6Sept Lots of old stores here.
