2008 2009 2010 Walter D Koerner Melanerpes formicivorus LARB HWHK 3 June 1500. Birds in the easy hole from last year (hole tagged 697; next to road in blue oak). 5 kids, ~14 days old. We banded them. Presumably this is LARB, which has stores. 9 July 1030. Hole 697 empty. 2009 18 May 1145. Opened hole #697: 5 kids, ~14 do! 27 May 800. Banded the 5 kids: 4729-4733. 2010 6 May 1045. Bird flashed from new hole in the VO across the fence from the granary (free 874). Babies (youngish) inside, I'm pretty sure. Need a short ladder to get it. Also checked hole 697: no real bottom anymore, although it could (maybe) get fixed up somehow. But they've dug it way down so a stick falls through it.
