2007 2008 2010 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes famicularis Blowdown HNHR 31 May 1400. Banded & blet The 3 kids. Plenty of stores. The hole - in a limb that's cracking open - 12 June 1800. Put The cut - which had fallen out - back in; 1 kid fledged as I did so. Limb is definitely not going to last too long - there's a big crack in it. 2008 29 April 1000. Bird in (new) hole high up in The granary. 1100. Opened hole: empty. In good shape, though. 12 May 1015. Peeped The hole (now tagged #8612; tree is #6534): 4 eggs (all normal). 3 June 1330. Went up to band the nest: 2 kids, both dead, ~14 do. One was literally headless, while The other's head was eaten in the back. An owl? Rat? In any case, lots of stores here. 14 June 1021. Bird in same hole. 4 eggs (look fresh) #8612 8 July 1600. Banded The 3 kids. Plenty of stores still. 2010 6 May Hole 8612 looks like it's a Starling nest (possibly fledged already). Starlings all over this tree.
