2005 Walter D Koening 2006 2007 Melanerpes formicivorus Blonone HNHR 9 June Hole nailed back together. 29 June What looked unmistakably like a fledgling just emerged from the an (old) hole above the one they were using in May. But how? They had fresh eggs on 17 May. If My cut fell out on 18 May, and it took them a week to renest, they'd have a new clutch on 28 May That would have hatched on or about 9 June and would now be 20 days old. I don't get how I could have missed a nest entirely here. Weird. Maybe the 17 May nest was a 2nd nest and this kid is from an earlier (missed) nest? That could be it, I guess. 2006 17 May Whole limb with 2005 holes fell over winter. Activity here, but none in any holes. 7 June 1700. Opened the new hole, high in the main trunk & facing back-toward Hastings: 3 babies, ~1-2 do, + 2 unhatched eggs, 1 a nut. Measurements of The non-run: 23.6 x 19.8 mm. Hole now tagged #500. Plenty of stores remaining. Band ~26 June 23 June Banded & bled the 3 kids here. Still stores. 2007 10 May 900 Bird in (new) hole in granary. Nest a rope 11 May 1000.
