2002 2003 2004 2005 WaltorD Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Blomone UNDER 24 May 900. Checked nest, ready to band kids: I recently deck chick, covered by some initial starting nest material'. Chick could have died yesterday or even last night(!) Still stores here, Back of old hole (1122) had fallen off, but- we fixed it; it's otherwise in good shape 3 June 830. Still stores; noone in any holes. 9 June 1545. 2 birds in new hole out on a limb in the granary. No sounds, so perhaps eggs? 14 June 1345. Noone in any holes this time. 21 June 1600. Bird in the new hole again. Guess I'll have to open it after all. Starling babies in the 1st nest hole. 25 June 700. Opened the new hole in the granary where the birds have been hanging out: still working on it. I also cleared out the 1st nest hole, which by now had 4 old starling chicks. 2003 7 April Stores here. 5 May Starlings in the old nest hole (not the one they used last year - the one out on the limb). 2005 16 May 1400. Bird in a new hole in The granary. 17 May 1730. Opened the hole (now tagged #917): 4 fresh eggs. Stores still plenty here. 8 June Cuts fell out! Nest empty! Bummer stores here.
