2005 Wolter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lower Haystack HNHR 14 April 1100. Bird in traditional hole in middle of granary: 11 eggs (1 a runt)! Lots of stores. Eggs several days incubated, at least. EHD 21 Apr. Apparently new 99 here. 26 April 1645. Hole totally empty! However, on the way here, ~10' from the tree, are some egg shells that I think are ACWDs, so I suspect they hatched at any rate. Bummer. 2 May 1630. Today, 6 days later, There are 13 eggs in the hole (1 a runt)! Apparently there are 3 99 here! I didn't even touch them this time. 14 May 1445. Hole empty once again. Must be tough with this many 99! <No runts 21 May 1000. Checked the hole: 11 fresh eggs!! Try, try again! 1 June 1315. Checked nest (bird in hole fronte): 13 eggs! Set an ambush. 5 June 1545. Chilled nest: 6 kids, 2-3 do, + 6 unhatched eggs. Band ~23 June. 12 June 945. Came up to try and get one of the 99. When I checked the nest, a 8 was brooding the kids. I picked him up to see who he was (8 LB-DA/M #3223) and put him back, 1045. 9 LP-BLK #400S fed. Is she The 3rd (laying) 9? 1100. Caught 2 NOBA 99 at once! Nope! Only 1 NOBA 9 + 94005. On well.
