2008 2010 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lower Long field HNHR [Apr] Counted stores to get an idea of granary size here: 1050, mostly in the dead sycamore trunk. 7 June 1500. Kid looking out of old nest hole !?! Flew out. A 2dd in There also. Flushed as we climbed up. What does this mean? Missed nest? We checked this hole dozens of times. Maybe Horsetail fledglings? Climbed up; hole empty but in OK shape. Set an ambush. Lots of stores here. 15 June Indications were that we perhaps did miss a nest here - presumably in The sycamore hole - so tonight I ambushed and nabbed 9 birds, including 84168, The 3 Bgg from MLF2 (!), and 5 NOBA fledglings! Figure that one out. Hole is tagged #905. 2010 8 April 1200. Opened the new hole v. high up in The main sycamore: empty. Now tagged #6898. It's a good 70-75' up There.
