2005 Walter D Koening Melanerpes formicivorus 160D 14 January 800. Ambushed The artificial hole I put up here in December (after discovering, best I could tell that they were roosting in the lichen here!) and got 3 birds: A Noba 8, a Noba 4, and 4024, a (probable FY [now 2Y]) bird I caught at 1800 in December. Sheesh! No telling who's who. Lots of stores in this tree here; they've done well. 19 April 1545. Checked the artificial hole, which they've been in a few times: empty but in pretty good shape. Fair number of stores in This tree! 25 April 1330. 2 fresh eggs in artificial hole. ① 25.3 x 19.3 ② 25.6 x 18.7. 30 April 800. I came up here to take the eggs (after Neil did 2 inc watches, one yesterday morning) only to find The damn hole empty! What a posser! 17 May 1400. Bird in art. hole: 3 eggs, a few days inc. I Think; ① 25.7 x 19.1 ② 25.7 x 20.1 ③ 24.8 x 20.1. 24 May 1645. 3 hatchlings, ~1 do. 9 June 3 kids in hole; looking good. 11 June 900. Banded & bled the 3 kids. And they do have stores in this tree. 1 Sept. No stores left here. Apparently ran out this summer.
