Astoria. The trip up had been thru most beautifult hilly country covered with tropical looking forests. Certainly the prospects are bright. A good deal of the country is settled however and there are little thatch roofs appearing everywhere in the woods. The road is fine but of course is fairly constantly up because it has to reach a divide of 2400 above San Salvador at 2100. The town is quite some size and free from mosquitoes. They are fairly modern and much more ambitious and up and coming than Mexicans. There are many machines about but all high price cars. We haven't seen a Ford yet. American and European management and money is the backbone of the country. This toll is run by Germans. The night was just rainy but had evidently rained in the P.M. We visited the Golf Museo
