but not nesting, one sparrow
of Marsh Sparrow sort was seen
and one Mockingbird heard,
This seemed to be the bird
population as observed.
Some of the frigate seem
to have [illegible] heads and
bills some white under the
head but black bill and top
head. Which are young and
which are of [illegible] hours.
Very few full black males are
seen.
Frigates were seen swooping
and skimming the surface
and occasionally dipping the
head (to pick up food superficially).
We left the harbor about
five after much maneuvering
out around the sand bar
and break waters. The channel
is only about 2 boat widths
and right in surf nearly.
July 4. Spent the whole day
sailing across the Golfo de
Tampico and passed
Champerico in the afternoon.
There is a long low
coastal plain here as was
not the case anywhere in
Mexico. The mountains rise
high in the background.
