were running along by the Maria Islands Again. The ocean here was very quiet as before. The only birds seen were a few shearwots that I should call black- vented. They were white underneath and dark above but more I could not tell. Sept 9 Wed Arrived in Mazatlan which has quite improved due to the rains. All the hills about are now green. I spent my time in town looking up the Doctor who saw Dad and says the trouble is Malaria. Mazatlan is really much more civilized than I first thought having since seen other places. The jackies are not so much in evidence as afores. I believe their breeding season has passed as at Salina Cruz. About 8.30 we pulled out for Ensenada where we expect to be Sun am.
