7 A.M train and met some of the Railway officials. Mr Griffith of the Hotel Belming wrote to the office and introduced us to Mr Fischer head of the wharf office.
We saw the customs officials and everything was fixed up by an order from the capital.
Along about noon we discovered they wouldn't let us out of the country without a thoroughly signed passport so we telephoned to the president for special permit. No answer came by five so we went with Mr. Fischer to see the Commandant. We finally succeeded in 'soft soaping' him and he gave free permission to leave even if the order from the president should not arrive.
Very few birds are about the harbor altho the adjoining mangrove regions look thickly birdy places and the place is full of fish.
